Encouraging the Pursuit of Afiya

Our Story and Mission

for AFIYA was inspired by a dua found in Sunan Ibn Majah 3871 in which the reciter asks Allah for ‘Afwa’ and ‘Afiya’ in this life and the next.

Allahumma inni as’aluka al afwa wal afiyah fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as’aluka al afwa wal afiyah fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahum-mastur ‘awrati, wa amin raw’ati wahfazni min bayni yadayya, wa min khalfi, wa ‘an yamini wa ‘an shimali, wa min fawqi, wa ‘audhu bika an ughtala min tahti

O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in this world and in the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religious and my worldly affairs. O Allah, conceal my faults, calm my fears, and protect me from before me and behind me, from my right and my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in You from being taken unaware from beneath me

(Sunan Ibn Majah 3871)

The Arabic word ‘afiya’, which roughly translates to well-being, is not just a surface level of well-being, but an all encompassing one that covers spiritual, physical, emotional well-being and more.

From this dua, we realise that Allah wants us to aspire for well-being for His sake. As such, for AFIYA was created with a mission to inspire, encourage and facilitate the pursuit of Afiya for the sake of Allah.

We aim to do this by:

  • creating quality content, including articles and ebooks that inspire and encourage the pursuit of wellbeing
  • creating well crafted products including journals and digital products that facilitate the pursuit of wellbeing

Al-‘Abbas reported: I said,

“O Messenger of Allah, teach me something to ask Allah Almighty.” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Ask Allah for wellness.” I waited some days, then I came and said, “O Messenger of Allah, teach me something to ask Allah.” The Prophet said to me, “O ‘Abbas, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah, ask Allah for wellness in the world and in the Hereafter.
